Is the Candela I2PL a Laser or Photo Skin Rejuvenating System?
The Candela Ellipse I2PL (Intense Pulsed Light) is an advanced photo skin rejuvenation system that treats sun damaged skin by reducing pigment and vascular abnormalities through applied heat. The I2PL is light and ergonomically shaped which makes it comfortable for the client and operator. It also features patented technology that reduces the risk of side effects to the surrounding skin. The Candela Ellipse I2PL is not laser skin rejuvenation but rather intense pulsed light, or photo skin rejuvenation. Whereas a laser uses one band on the wavelength to address a specific and targeted skin condition, intense pulsed light uses more than one band on the wavelength to address a variety of skin conditions.
What is Skin Rejuvenation?
Skin rejuvenation treatment with the Ellipse I2PL helps you to keep a younger and fresher look. The safe, visible light emitted from the Ellipse I2PL flash lamp makes your face look younger by removing age spots and spider veins, reducing diffuse redness and improving overall skin texture. Uneven pigmentation is also reduced. Our clients often remark that photo skin rejuvenation seems like a non-surgical facelift.
What is Intense Pulsed Light?
In its simplest form, intense pulsed light is short flashes of very bright light. The Ellipse I2PL uses short, safe bursts of light emitted from a flash lamp to treat specific skin conditions. The technology is rather sophisticated but safe. The Ellipse I2PL system very carefully controls the overall delivery of the light – both the amount of light and the speed of its delivery to your specific skin condition.
What is the Difference between the Candela Ellipse I2PL and Other Photo Skin Rejuvenation Light Systems?
In addition to the Candela GentleLASE, the Ellipse I2PL is another high quality product made by the U.S. leader in aesthetic lasers. Unlike the limited efficacy of older intense pulsed light products previously available, Candela's new Ellipse system features exclusive I2PL, dual mode filtering technology. I2PL elminates exposure to potentially harmful wavelengths reducing treatment time and maximizing patient results and comfort. The Ellipse I2PL removes non-specific wavelengths requiring less energy for clinical results. This is more comfortable for clients and no thick messy gels are required. The only side effect associated with the treatment is transient erythema (redness) and edema (minor swelling).
Can I be Treated?
Because skin rejuvenation is based on light absorption by melanin and hemoglobin, treatments are most effective in a patient that does not have a suntan. Therefore, it is recommended that patients do NOT suntan for at least 4 weeks prior to starting skin rejuvenation treatments. The lighter the skin, the more pronounced the contrast is between the age spots, blood vessels and the skin itself thus making treatments more effective. The Ellipse I2PL has settings for different skin colors that deliver the correct energy output for your complexion.
Does it Hurt?
Many patients describe our skin rejuvenation treatment as a warming sensation similar to the feeling they have after a day in the sun. No anesthetics are required.
Do I Need to Take Special Precautions Before and After Skin Rejuvenation Treatment?
The Ellipse I2PL skin rejuvenation light used is a completely safe and visible light. Potentially harmful wavelengths are removed by the unique Ellipse I2PL Dual Mode Filtering system. Since tanning takes place through the accumulation of pigment (melanin) in the skin, it is important to avoid tanning before and during the treatment period, i.e., sun, solarium or self-tanning cream. If you are over-exposed to the sun, your tanned skin will absorb more light which may have adverse treatment effects. Generally, no post-treatment skin rejuvenation care is necessary. But people with sensitive skin may benefit from applying an ice pack immediately after treatment. In addition, for a few weeks following treatment, it is recommended that sun block of at least SPF 30 blocking both UVA and UVB rays is used.
What Can I Expect After Treatment?
Following IPL photo skin rejuvenation treatments at the New Freedom Laser centers, you will notice that your skin will have a more youthful appearance. It will look and feel firmer. There will be an improvement in the overall texture of the skin as well as an evening of pigmentation. Brown spots and red spider veins will virtually disappear. Immediately following treatment, there will be a darkening of both brown spots and spider veins with clearing taking place within one week.
