What Is BOTOX® and what does it do?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is also referred to as botulinum toxin type A which is sterilized and purified before being made into injection form. BOTOX® was first used for eye disorders before being FDA-approved for the temporary reduction of frown lines between the eyes, forehead wrinkles and “crows’ feet” wrinkles around the corners of the eyes. It has been evaluated for its safety as a facial rejuvenation treatment.

Facial wrinkles, crow’s feet, and forehead lines happen for a number of reasons including aging (skin loses its elasticity), sun (UVA/UVB ray exposure), and facial muscle movements that occur on a daily basis (smiling, frowning, etc.)

BOTOX® temporarily blocks certain neurotransmitter chemicals that signal muscles to move. In other words, BOTOX® helps to lessen muscle movement which is why frown lines and wrinkles can seemingly disappear for a while.

Who Is Eligible for BOTOX® Injection Treatments?
Clients over the age of 18 years of age are eligible for BOTOX® injection treatments in Kittery.

It is advised that women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, as well as those with infections around the area of potential injection, refrain from seeking BOTOX® injection treatments until cleared by their doctors. In addition, there may be a risk for those with specific neuromuscular disorders including breathing and/or swallowing difficulty post-BOTOX® treatment. If you’ve experienced an allergic reaction to ingredients contained in BOTOX®, consult with your doctor before undergoing treatment.

FAQs

Is it best to have a doctor perform my BOTOX® treatments?
In many states, BOTOX® injection treatments can be administered by a medical professional, registered nurse, and even a dentist. For the best and safest results, we believe that BOTOX® be administered by a doctor such as Dr. Shepherd, D.O., or a Registered Nurse such as Loretta Andreottola, R.N., who are specifically trained in cosmetic injections with over 18 years of experience.

What happens during my first BOTOX® consultation?
A comprehensive consultation with Loretta Andreottola, R.N. will discuss the facial areas you wish to treat and determine the appropriate BOTOX® doses to inject into each site since different facial muscles require different dosage amounts. After your consultation, Loretta Andreottola, R.N. will safely administer the required number of BOTOX® Cosmetic injections to each site. BOTOX® treatments usually take between 10-20 minutes to complete.

Does BOTOX® hurt?
Our clients tell us that BOTOX® injection treatments just feel like a mild sting or a mild pinch. However, our goal is comfort. If you are highly sensitive to even the smallest of pinches, let us know and we’ll administer a topical anesthetic before beginning.

How long does BOTOX® last?
The reduction of forehead wrinkles, “crows’ feet” wrinkles, and frown lines usually last up to 4 months, or 6 months if injected into stronger and larger muscles such as your chin or around the jaw area.

How much does the BOTOX® injection cost?
Because BOTOX® injections are charged on a per-unit basis, you won’t really know the total cost until after your initial consultation with Loretta Andreottola, R.N.. The amount of units required will be determined by the severity of your facial lines and wrinkles.

Do you know of any BOTOX® side effects?
Although BOTOX® has been reported as one of the safest non-surgical facial rejuvenation procedures in the US, there isn’t a medical procedure administered that doesn’t come with potential risks. With BOTOX®. You could experience a bit of after-pain and inflammation, maybe some headache, nausea, hives or rashes, or eyelid and brow drooping. Be sure to fully consult with Loretta Andreottola, R.N. about these potential side effects.

Is there any downtime after getting BOTOX® injections?
Our clients report no downtime after having been administered BOTOX® injections. Most go right back to work; others may need a couple of hours before doing so.
